MY STORY: Finding My Way Out of the Dark
CHAPTER 2: Descent into Darkness
As my addiction took hold, my life began to unravel. My relationships with my family suffered, and I became a disappointing son, nephew, and brother. I’d go months without communicating with them, pretending to be fine when they reached out. My brother’s calls would go unanswered or I’d put on a facade, assuring him everything was okay.
But beneath the surface, my life was spiraling out of control. I moved from Chingola to Ndola, seeking freedom to do as I pleased. There, I met a group of DJs who became close friends. We clubbed, partied, and abused substances, all while trying to make a name for ourselves in the music industry. My song “Ndiwe Zuba” became a national hit, fueling my addiction and dizzying lifestyle.
I then moved to Lusaka, where I squatted with prominent DJs and radio personalities. They introduced me to a lifestyle of endless nights, drinking, and partying. I forgot my humble beginnings, church-going upbringing, and the values my parents instilled in me. One DJ, who’d taken me under his wing, saw the warning signs and counseled me about the dangers of addiction. But I wouldn’t listen, thinking he was being overprotective.
As my addiction consumed me, I lost sight of my abilities and passion for music. Leisure and pleasure became my top priorities. I forgot I was a music producer who’d inspired many young talents and musicians. My addiction had taken over, and I was heading down a path of destruction. Looking back, I see the hand of God guiding me towards redemption. Without Him, I wouldn’t be here today.
To be continued…
