IS “OLIJABA ENTERTAINMENTS” THE NEW INDEPENDENT RECORD LABEL IN TOWN?
Prior to the release of his fifth and last studio album “Olijaba” which translates to “Original” in English, Macky 2 announced that he would retire from actively recording music and venture into artist management. By the way, Macky 2 is the Chief Visionary Officer for Ndola based record label “Alpha Entertainments” which is home to the likes of Chef 187, Coziem, Drifta Trek, HD Empire, Jemax, Joe Bligga, Kabamba, Kiss B Sai BaBa, Pilato, The Kopala Pastor, TroothBaller and Young Dee Mr 2 in 1.
On 23rd April, 2022, Macky 2 had an interview with DJ Edu on BBC Radio 1 show dubbed “This Is Africa.” During the interview, Macky 2 shared with DJ Edu about the challenges of promoting Zambian music internationally, how he wants to focus on promoting young emerging artists. He further stated the industry in Zambia needs more people behind the stage, people who understand how the business works and help the upcoming artists elevate in the industry.
King Buga went on to drop names of the emerging artists under his wing. Cinori Xo, NBS Andre and Marie were the three names dropped. In addition, a few weeks ago, Frank Ro took to his socials to share a post citing he is under “Olijaba Entertainments” a new independent record label that belongs to the Alpha Entertainments CEO. Frank even sat with with Thapiwa Ngoma on Diamond TV’s “In The Cut” show to confirm the development.
